Embracing Life’s Twists and Turns: Megan’s Journey with Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 1

Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 15

Megan, a former high school English teacher turned stay-at-home mom, opens up about her life with Spinocerebellar Ataxia Type 1 (SCA1) in a bid to raise awareness about the condition. Despite a seemingly normal upbringing filled with achievements and adventures, Megan noticed subtle changes in her mobility around age 20. These changes, reminiscent of her father’s battle with the same condition, eventually led her to seek a diagnosis at 26.

Living with SCA1 has brought challenges, including the loss of fine motor skills, difficulty in walking, and slurred speech. Yet, Megan’s resilience shines through as she embraces life’s journey with unwavering positivity. With the support of her loving husband, a cozy one-story home, and a precious son born free of the condition, Megan finds joy amidst the challenges.

Through her advocacy work, Megan strives to shed light on the complexities of Ataxia while highlighting the importance of support networks and positivity in facing life’s obstacles. Despite the unpredictability of her condition, Megan’s story is a testament to the power of love, resilience, and the beauty of embracing life’s twists and turns.
