Shawn Andrus2

Shawn Andrus bravely shares his personal Ataxia journey, shedding light on the challenges and triumphs he has faced since his diagnosis in January 2020 at the age of 48. Initially dismissed as a concussion scare after a fall, Shawn’s journey took a serious turn when doctors identified Ataxia as the underlying cause.

Despite the initial shock of diagnosis, Shawn remained resilient.

Determined to navigate the complexities of his condition with strength and perseverance. With the support of his loving family and the expert care provided by the U of M Ataxia Center, Shawn has bravely confronted the progressive nature of Ataxia.

As the disease continues to impact his mobility and speech, Shawn refuses to let Ataxia define him. Embracing a mindset of empowerment, he asserts control over his life, refusing to yield to the limitations imposed by his condition. Whether relying on his walker, wheelchair, or trusty scooter for mobility, Shawn remains determined to live life to the fullest extent possible.

Despite the uncertainties surrounding his specific type of Ataxia,

Shawn remains hopeful that his journey will contribute to the collective understanding of this rare disease. With unwavering faith in his medical team and a steadfast commitment to advocacy, Shawn’s story serves as a beacon of inspiration for others facing similar challenges.

Through his courage and resilience, Shawn Andrus reminds us that while Ataxia may present formidable obstacles, it is ultimately the human spirit that prevails.
